Safety for all candles
- NEVER LEAVE BURNING CANDLES UNATTENDED
- Always check the labels and warnings with the candle and candle holder
- Ensure the candle(s) is upright in the cake before lighting.

on a surface that will not be damaged by heat e.g. ceramic tiles or
plates. Table mats are NOT suitable.

- Always read and follow manufacturer's instructions supplied with candles
and candle holders. Remove all packaging before use.
- Do not leave children unattended.
- Ensure candles are placed at least 10cm/4 inches apart and allow headroom
above the candle for the heat to disperse.
- Ensure candles are burned away from flammable items.
- Candles should be burned away from other sources of heat.
- Candles should be burned in an area free from draughts.
Novelty candles
Much of the decorativeness of novelty candles comes from their irregular
shape. However this does mean they tend to drip more copiously and more
unevenly than ordinary candles. Always place a novelty candle on something
large and fireproof such as a ceramic or china plate after use.
A table mat, for instance, is not a safe option.
Use a suitable, non-flammable holder and make sure the candle is firmly
upright, not leaning to one side.
Never move a candle once lit and while the wax is liquid. And never leave
a candle unattended.
